The DiskPatch main interface
back to About Windows Vista next to Selecting A Disk

After starting DiskPatch the main screen will look like this:

Elements of the DiskPatch main screen:

[1] the main menu. This menu currently displays only the options that can be used when no disk has been selected yet. As soon as a disk has been selected, this menu will be expanded.
[2] the 3 disk access indicators. These will light up when the selected disk is being accessed.
From left to right: the read indicator, the write indicator and the retry indicator. An indicator will light up green if the action was successful, or red if an error occurred. The retry indicator will flash white when DiskPatch is retrying a read or write action.
The indicators allow you to monitor disk access to some extend. If for instance DiskPatch seems to be waiting a long time for something to complete, these indicators tell you something about what's happening.
[3] DiskPatch can access the first 4 disks that are connected to the PC. If a disk is connected, its details will be displayed. The disk information consists of the following:
A source indicator (a 'physical' disk was selected, or a 'state file' was loaded), the disk's size in sectors and Gb, disk geometry details, an indicator that tells if the geometry details came from the bios (BIOS) or from changing the settings in the options menu (USER). If DiskPatch had to correct the geometry values the indicator will display (FIXD).
When forensic mode is used the protected disk will have an indicator 'protected'.
The selected disk will be highlighted.
[4] the part of the screen below the disk information bar is used for information. Progress bars and additional info when entering values is displayed here.

After a disk (or a state file) has been selected, the main screen will look like this:

Details about the current mode of operation can be obtained by selecting [About DiskPatch] from the menu.
