Problem disk: Western Digital WD 2500JS external USB drive (250GB).
Fault symptoms:  Windows XP on laptop and on PC give same symptoms: drive letter allocated but  attempting to read in windows Explorer results in the error message: The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable. Right clicking on the drive letter opens the Properties box which shows the file system as RAW and the Volumes tab contains no data.

The problem resulted from my PC freezing whilst copying large files to the Western Digital drive.

I have run DiskPatch support analysis and the log file contents are pasted below. Please let me know if DiskPatch will be able to restore access to the data on the disk if I purchase it?

My Windows XP Home Edition on both my laptop and PC is version: 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647 : Service Pack 3)

All things that DiskPatch may be able to repair don't seem broken, so the problem lies in the file-system itself. That is usually not repairable. If you need files from that disk you will need a tool like iRecover to copy them from the damaged volume. If you don't need anything from the disk, you can just reformat it and start using it again.

Thanks. I need the files: they are backups and archives. Would iRecover retrieve all of the files?

There's no way to tell; you'll have to try. The trial version allows you to see if files can be found and recovered, so try that first. If files do show up you can decide to go ahead and purchase the full version.
