I purchased this software in hopes of getting access to the data. I repaired the partition just fine. But the MBR parttion can not be read. Any thing I can do about this?

I don't understand the question, every partition is a MBR partition with the exception of logicals. Please explain what's going on and read the sticky posts before replying; we need the correct information before we can help you. Thanks.

Sorry. Its a windows server 2003. Repairs taken: used Diskpatch to scan disk and make repairs to the partition table. Injected the boot code into the mbr. Still nothing. The drive, whichwas connected to a highpoint ata raid controller would start to boot into windows and then stop. But, taking the drive out I was unable to look at the drive using UBCD, XP, and Vista machines. The drive shows up but acts like its needs to be refrormated. This was never done. I ran a support log. I am unsure of what to do now.

Hello,

From an MBR and boot sector perspective, there is nothing that should prevent you (Windows) from at least accessing the disk. And accessing the disk is what we should be concentrating at right now. Seen the fact that Windows started booting I doubt that there was anything wrong with the partition table or boot sector to begin with.

Q: These boot problems started suddenly, and out of the blue?

- Linux is far more forgiving when it comes to minor file system damage when it comes to accessing NTFS drives. So trying a Knoppix boot CD (or similar) is what I'd try first. If possible copy user data to safety.

- If that fails you need iUndelete or iRecover to salvage user data.

Then after the data was rescued you can see if XP's fix tools can resolve the issue (Fixboot). If not, then restoring the OS from backup or reinstalling is the only remainng option.

Alright, getting somewhere. I now have access to the drive and its data. Still won't boot though. Disk is active. In an attempt to access the drive I connected it to a Vista machine. Before I know it it detected it had a problem and ran a checkdisk. I don't think that will do anything bad since I now have access to it. But just letting you know. The boot files seem to be there but everytime I try and boot from it all it does is restart. Before I start to try and fix the files, is there anything else that I might need to do?

Well, obviously you should backup stuff if needed. It has now become a boot problem (windows related) and we don't support windows, so i think you've solved the datarecovery problem sofar. Just make sure the data is safe before getting to work on those files and boot problems.
