I have a computer that says windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \\Windows\system32\config\system

The customer stated that he started the system in recovery mode and went to delete the boot.ini but it was not recognized. Then he did a chkdsk /r/f, went back into recovery and then deleted the boot.ini file and ran bootcfg /rebuild. Then reran chkdsk /r/f and ran fixboot.

System still gives you the same message as it did originally. I was going to perform a repair install however it does not recognize that there is a windows installation there and calls it "some other OS" here is a log file is this something that can be repaired with diskpatch? Thank you.

First of all, doing all those things (chkdsk etc.) while in a recovery situation (your client, i mean) was a dumb thing to do, as our faqs and postings make very clear. i understand it's not your fault that the client did that but it should be mentioned, maybe next time he'll think twice.

Then there's the problem. We see some read errors. Since this particular scan doesn't check the whole disk we may assume that the disk has problems, so you should try to figure out how bad it is. From the looks of it there are at least 2 areas where sectors can not be read. The standard procedure in this case would be to clone the disk, but that depends on what your goals are: if there's no data to recover and all you wish to do is get the disk working again (windows running again) you should simply trash the disk and replace it, reinstall windows and the data, and be done with it. If, on the other hand, data needs to be extracted from this disk (because there's no backup) the disk should be cloned and the data should be extracted from the clone.

Yes they would like to retrieve the files on the disk and no they do not have a backup. I have upgraded diskpatch and am cloning the disk. Here are the log files: thank you. Is there anything that can be done?

The disk's health looks bad. Clone the disk ASAP and then retrieve data using iRecover.
