I apologize in advance as I am sure this information is in the forum but I am so frantic at what I did I would just appreciate a review and your suggestions to proceed.  A sys admin friend of mine recommended your sw.  Here is what I did:

I just fdisk'd my two internal hard drives and both external USB drives.  Every file in my life was on those drives.  One internal SSD had just WIN 7 on it which I am reinstalling. The second internal had docs, pics and music on it which I synced with one of the external drives (also Fdisk'd).  The other external USB had a ton of other stuff which was only on it.

My friend suggested getting irecover, and I am happy to purchase full version if you tell me it will address and attempt recovery of these fdiskd drives internal and external.  Really the USB drives are the ones I need to recover first.

Please let me know and I will be happy to send anyone my cell number to speak with asap.  Thanks again  Phil

Hello,

By "fdisk'd" you mean you re-created partitions? In that case you will need iRecover. If the disks were re-partitioned the same way as they were before then you follow standard procedure: http://www.diydatarecovery.nl/forum/index.php/topic,368.0.html

If you have only deleted partitions another option would be DiskPatch to undelete them (in place).

Thank you Joep. I used FDisk.  The specific commands were 1) delete partition or logical dos drive (which I think is just a prompt to get you to the next menu) and then 2) delete non-dos partition, (which I think was the actually delete command)  Stopped after I realized I did two drives I didn't want to.

Does that help clarify / make a difference which I use?  Thanks again for your prompt reply.

Hello,

DiskPatch should work then. Advantage is that your partitions will be undeleted 'in-place'. With iRecover you'd need another disk to copy data to, with DiskPatch you don't.

Here is the log file from the internal HD.  I am guessing I can do the same thing again for each of the external USB drives? Thanks again for the help and letting me know what you think.

The log shows a large volume that might be recoverable, number 2 in the list.  I'd say go ahead and see if the repair leads to good results. It looks good from here. Look at this for details:

Thank you for the prompt reply.  When you say #2 on the list, I just want to make sure it is this one you are referring to: 129 | 3907029168 | 255 | 63 | 863 | BIOS.

If I read the list correctly from the log above, the 7 GB drive is the USB stick, the 55GB is the SSD drive that I reloaded windows on (which I dont need to recover), so I am thinking this remaining drive was the 2TB internal?

I will follow the instructions you referenced once I complete the log scan for the first of my external USB drives which is running now.  Really, thanks again.

Number 2.
This list is the same list that is shown after the DiskPatch scan.
Mind you, if that first volume contains something you need you should simply select that too.

After running the log scan for the first external USB drive, a message appears and says No entries, State File for disk 3 (131) not created.  Looking through support but dont find exactly what that means.

Here is the log file for this USB external drive:

Hello,

With what were those partitions originally created? You're doing the Vista aligned scan, but this will only find partitions *created* with Windows Vista (and higher). Try cylinder aligned scan as well. If that does not work (no results) it may be due to the current disk geometry (64 heads / 32 sectors). Use 'set custom geometry' in the options menu to change this to 255 heads / 63 sectors, then rescan.

Thanks Joep, I will do this next.  Guess what?  The restore worked perfectly on my internal drive!  ALL MY FILES restored!  What a relief.  I had a little trouble following the directions, so I had to rebuild my C drive and windows, but it restored the drive I had all my files on perfectly the way they were before I fdisk'd it.  Unbelievable. I am just reinstalling some software now but I think we won half the battle! USBs up next in a few.

Hi Joep.  I took a little breather over the weekend to make sure I wasn't rushing through all of this.  I started my restore of the above USB external drive yesterday afternoon using your instructions.  It finished this morning, and all my files have been restored, amazing!  Two for two!.  I am just creating a USB boot-able stick so I can run a scan on the last remaining external USB drive and I will post it.  Thanks again for your help, really have been a lifesaver...More to come

Okay last USB drive restored in five minutes.  I restored four hard drives with your software, NO PROBLEM!  Unbelievable, my sincere thanks!  Now, time to do some backups!  Cheers!
