New issue (not related to my other thread):

I have another external hard drive that I would like to copy all the files from. It has a bunch of videos/pictures etc....
Windows does recognize it and I see the contents. I can even view pictures. But when I try to copy the entire contents to another drive, windows gives me an error message.

The reason I am copying is that I think the drive is dying. It makes some odd noises and it fails a short drive diagnostic.

I have now removed the drive and connected it directly to the SATA ports. I created a support analysis log file and a SMART log. Both are below.
I was going to clone the disk, but I figured I would chat with you first.

I don't know how you do it but this disk also has health issues. The copying probably failes because of read errors, so cloning first is the best thing to do. After that you can check if Windows can access the volume normally, which may not work if control structures could not be copied because of severe read problems. Whatever happens, do not let chkdsk run on either the disk or the clone, and use iRecover to lift files from the clone if normal access won't work.

Ok, I started the clone procedure. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to copy with the cloned drive.

Success. The clone went well. Only 8 sectors could not be read. I then copied everything to another drive under windows using a program called YCOPY. It allowed me to copy nearly everything, skipping 3 files that were not readable.
