Hi,

Taking out the disk of it's enclosure and attach it to a port directly should (1) speed up disk access + (2) errors are better handled + (3) we can look at the SMART data.

Well, this is getting more and more complicated

Let me post 1st these batch of screenshots

http://imageupper.com/i/?S0200010070051G13730976921028148

after searching to "how to disassemble I came through these points"

A forum post say

"Don't bother trying to open it.

The G2 (&S2) use "USB on-board technology", which means a USB controller/interface directly on the drive's circuit board.

There is no SATA controller/interface so you can't use the drive in another enclosure/device or laptop."

and here is youtube video about the HDD disassembled

So ?!

Hello,

Seems like we're at a dead end here, as far as DIY recovery is concerned. This "USB on-board technology" is a problem when it comes to dealing with "bad" disks. And you see it more and more. Taking a disk out of a USB enclosure and attaching it to a hard disk port directly has never been a guaranteed way to success for reading a troublesome disk, but it often works.
