Please help me.  Smiley I have an Alienware Aurora R4 purchased in 2012.  It is no longer under warranty.  I had some nasty malware that was hijacking my internet browser so I formatted the C: drive in order to start clean.  I reinstalled Windows 7 Professional and was able to connect to the internet. All was well.

The first thing I did was try to update the BIOS from the version at purchase to the current version which is A11.  I got a message saying I couldn't go from the purchase version directly to A11 without first updating to version A04.  I downloaded A04 and installed that version just fine.  When I attempted to update to version A11 again, it did not complete successfully. Now I can't boot the computer at all.

I was able to run system diagnostics.  The repair attempt failed with the following message "Partition table is corrupt on harddisk0. Repair failed, code = 0x490."

I purchased DiskPatch and am trying to run it, but it isn't working.  I created the boot USB and start the computer with it.  I do get a Support Analysis Log which I copied below.  I have tried all of the troubleshooting options and keep getting the message "EFI BIOS/GUID partition type found.  Continuing may corrupt disk structures. I choose "No."    When I try to create the S.M.A.R.T. report I get a message saying "Current location can not be used A: 1 MB free space (previous session data found)."  Then I get thrown into DOS with an A: prompt.  I typed out the PSA.txt file.  The memory (all Cool pass, but the hard drive DST short test fails with error code 2000-0142, validation 76953.  I don't know what this means???

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Please elaborate. Does this mean the PC doesn't complete POST? Or do you see windows start messages but things stall? Any error messages?

Which diagnostics and what repair?

If the BIOS update didn't work then that is the first thing that needs to be sorted. Make sure the BIOS has a correctly working firmware and go from there.
A SMART report would be handy, try connecting ONLY the DiskPatch USB boot memory key (so no other USB devices).

According to Dell the disk needs to be replaced:

Yes, sorry about that. If you need data from the disk then you need to clone it ASAP. You can use DiskPatch for that.
