using win 7 ult 64, wd2T-green 2/20/2013. drive is hot swapped, used for family entertainment via usb carriage to OPPO 93--TV. My youngest grand son just learned how to flip light switches', and the one that controls power to the system (I'm assuming was the cause)? The drive continued to work for the TV set up, but I could not update the drive, (win 7 says (needs formated)

back in 2005 DP saved me from my ageing system, i am sure it will do it again.

Thanks

The log doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. Which means that whatever is wrong with the disk, it isn't something that DiskPatch can repair. This most likely means that if damage exists, it will be in the file system and inside the volume. Repairing the inner workings of NTFS volumes is pretty much not possible.

Do I understand correctly that the media player (TV) can read the disk but Windows won't mount it? If so, most media players use some form of Linux. You could try using a Linux distro to get access to the disk. Please note that this probably won't lead to repairing the damage: it might allow you access to the files so you can copy them to safety. Whatever happens, if getting to that data is a priority, don't let any file system repair tool run when connecting that disk. If you want to be completely safe you can clone the disk before attempting to read it with Linux.

If this doesn't work out you can try a run with iRecover, the demo version will at least give you an idea of how recoverable the data may be.

One final remark: powering of a disk like this (uncontrolled) can cause physical damage. There is no SMART log so I can't say anything about the physical state of the disk.
