Hello,

Unfortunately CHK-Mate is no longer maintained or supported. That said, I have never seen this particular error in CHK-Mate before.

When you say Scandisk, do you really mean Scandisk, implying that you are using Windows 98 or ME?

If you are not using Win98/ME or if you can slave the 'victim' disk to a Windows XP system, you can try a few things instead. However you must prevent from data being written to the volume containing the .CHK files:

- Option 1 would be to run iUndelete and see if can find the original files. So the files before they were converted to .CHK files.

- Option 2, use iRecover and make sure it is set to configure both deleted and in use files. See if can find the original files.

My laptop is a hp, uses window vista. One day that I  tried to start it  was impossible and I met forced to use the tool to return to the condition of factory. When I used, it  asked me to insert a memory USB to do a back up. After recovering the condition of factory and to ask me to insert the memory was when it said to me that had damaged files and that if  I wanted to repair them or not. I said that I should repair them. For my surprise the file of memory that before was weighing 3.2 Gb continued weighing 27000Kb and the remaining files turned into a file CHK that was placed in a secret folder by FOUND's name.

Hello,

Then it's all depending if the data on the USB drive is or isn't really corrupt. If it is, recovering the original data from the hard disk is a matter of luck: It was written to (the restore image) and is still being written to as I assume you are using it now.

Ideally proceed as follows:

- Disconnect the USB disk to protect it.

- Stop writing the hard disk that possibly contains original data. It needs to be connected somehow so we can scan with iRecover. Then data needs to be recovered to another disk.

- If data can not be recovered from the original disk then try to recover data from the USB drive using iRecover.
