Hello,

I tried using MBRTool to save Track0 info from an old hard disk.  It is currently in an external drive enclosure.  I booted from a MBRTool CD and got the following message when I tried to save the Track0 data...

Error code 51, Error Address 18900

It did not/could not/would not save the Track0 data.

What did I do wrong?  What do these messages mean?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I believed I was trying to save to the HD that the system typically boots from.  Maybe I'm wrong and I'll retry.

Are those error numbers indicative of trying to save to a non-writable medium?

Thanks for your suggestion.  I'll check...

Yes, it is not clear, but I was saving to the CD.  I created a boot USB using instructions from somewhere in this forum and was able to create a boot USB and then saved the info I needed.  Thanks!

Hello,

Great you have got it going! It is due to FreeDOS that MBRtool can't report a clearer "I can't do that message", FreeDOS reports to MBRtool it has written the file, and even if MBRtool verifies the file to be there, FreeDOS will say that it is there. That is a FreeDOS bug we have to live with unfortunately.
