Low priority question:  I am working on a machine with no floppy drives, and all disks formatted NTFS.  I don't have any spare USB thumb drives (though, if necessary, I can go get one), but the machine does have a USB memory card reader, and I have a spare 2G SD card.  Can I use the USB Key prep program with that and use it like a USB Key?

By trial and error, I can say that, yes, a memory card connected through a USB reader CAN be used the same as a USB stick.
