The volume is completely gone, does not show up in "disk
management" or as a drive letter

Problem description
|
A missing volume can often be attributed to a damaged partition
table. Also, if you (accidentally) delete a volume, it is removed
from the partition table and can be "undeleted" by adding
it to the table once again.
Damage in the volume itself may also lead to the volume completely
disappearing, in which case lifting the data from the volume is the
best way to go.
